From ChatGPT to Walking, Talking Robots 🤖

Brett Adcock, CEO of Figure robotics, predicted 2024 as “the year of Embodied AI”. This prediction is becoming true as humanoid robots are now able to perform tasks and communicate with people. The collaboration between OpenAI and Figure combines OpenAI's advanced visual and language intelligence with Figure's quick and precise robot actions.

Embodied AI refers to robots that can interact with the physical world. Figure's latest robot, Figure 01, can complete tasks and talk to people, thanks to ChatGPT integration. This is a big step forward compared to other robots.

Adcock is excited about the future, planning to produce many robots and improve their abilities. Sam Altman from OpenAI also sees great potential in robotics hardware. Figure's approach is different from other robots like Tesla’s Optimus, which can do yoga, or Boston Dynamics’ Atlas, known for somersaulting. Figure aims to create robots that can do everyday tasks and talk to humans.

Other companies are also working on robots. Google DeepMind is developing robots for simple tasks. New training methods like imitation learning are being developed to improve how robots learn.Stanford's Chen Wang is working on DexCap, a system to collect data for robot training without needing a real robot using gloves.

The advancements in robotics and AI are leading to discussions about AGI, the idea of a machine with human-like intelligence. With ‘Embodied AI’ as the theme for robotics, a humanoid might be the route to AGI.
