Good morning and welcome to the latest issue of neonpulse!
Here are the AI headlines making waves:
🌊 The $230 million dollar AI startup
🌊 AI gets it’s own constitution
🌊 Warner Music CEO on AI
Let’s get into it!
$230 million dollar AI startup
AI startup Humane is one of the most mysterious AI companies around, raising $230 million dollars for an AI-powered wearable computer while keeping any details about the project secret.
But thanks to a recent TED talk by Humane CEO Imran Chaudhri, we now have a glimpse into what the company is burning all that investor cash on.
Promising a life without screens, the company has effectively created “ChatGPT to go,” an AI-powered personal assistant with an embedded camera and phone that aims to help simplify and improve your life.
Doing his best Steve Jobs impression, Chaudhri explained during the demo that the device “interacts with the world the way you interact with the world. Hearing what you hear, seeing what you see, completely fading into the background of your life.”
Through voice commands, you can ask the device about restaurant recommendations, directions, or even catch up on any new emails you’ve received, although it makes you wonder if all of this could accomplished using a ChatGPT-powered app on your current smartphone.
And because the device sits in your pocket, and considering that 99% of clothing doesn’t have a pocket in that location, maybe the company’s real strategy is to make money by selling you new shirts and jackets that have a nice little pocket to hold its device.

The AI Constitution
OpenAI rival Anthropic has decided that it's high time that our future robot overlords learn ethics, leading the company to release an AI Constitution to ensure the safe and responsible development of AI.
The constitution outlines a set of values and principles that Anthropic’s AI must follow when interacting with users, including being helpful, harmless and honest, while steering clear of any shady or illegal activities (wheres the fun in that?).
Inspired by the UN Declaration of Human Rights, the constitution was developed through cooperative efforts between Anthropic's researchers, policy specialists, and operational leaders, and by publicly sharing its constitution, Anthropic aims to promote greater trust and openness in the AI domain.
Next up? The robot bill of rights.

Warner Music CEO on AI
Following a number of AI-produced songs receiving millions of listens in a matter of days, the CEO of one of the largest music groups in the world has finally opened up on how he believes AI will impact the music industry.
“The status quo of the way things work right now is not something that’s going to work going forward,” said Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl during the companies most recent earnings call.
“AI is just like any emerging technology. There will be challenges and opportunities. And with a proper expertise, it will be a powerful tool for the music industry.”
Warner Music has begun developing it’s own AI tools to expand the music output of the label’s artists, although if history is any indication, the record labels will receive the lions share of the revenue that comes from introducing this new technology.
But will artists continue to be cool with the status quo, receiving a small amount of their streaming royalties when there are other options on the table?
As we covered earlier, music artist Grimes has created her own platform to allow anyone to create music using a digital clone of her voice, promising to split royalties 50/50 for any hit tracks produced.
50% is a significant bump in pay for an artist that typically only receive 16% of streaming royalties, leading us to believe that more and more artists will start choosing this option over renewing their antiquated record deals.
