Apple's new AI models, developed under the DataComp project, have outperformed other leading open-source models such as Mistral and Hugging Face's offerings. The models, available on Hugging Face, include one with 7 billion parameters and another with 1.4 billion parameters, both showing superior benchmark performance.

Apple’s entry into open-source AI with highly competitive models showcases its commitment to advancing AI technology. By making these models and their training data publicly available, Apple not only boosts its own standing in the AI community but also supports further innovation and collaboration. That said, we are somewhat concerned about the future where AI has all our data and controls all of our devices — a sure way to create a vertically integrated monopoly.
