🤖 Is ChatGPT better than a real doctor?

Good morning and welcome to today’s issue of neonpulse!

Here are the AI headlines making waves:

🌊  Meet your new AI doctor

🌊   AI and the 4 day workweek

Let’s get into it!

DoctorGPT

AI now outperforming humans

As we highlighted last week, AI has now advanced to the point where it is outperforming humans in a number of areas, and the medical world is no exception.

Since being released in March, ChatGPT-4 aced the US medical licensing exam and is now been tested as medical a diagnostic tool.

In order to test ChatGPT’s diagnostic abilities, Dr. Isaac Kohane, a medical doctor and computer scientist at Harvard, provided the AI with information about a sick infant, including details from a physical exam, ultrasound data, and hormone levels.

And the result?

ChatGPT4 was able to accurately identify a rare 1 in 100,000 disorder ”just as I would, with all my years of study and experience,” Kohane wrote. “And I'm stunned to say: better than many doctors I've observed.”

And while we’re still in the early days of AI, the rapid evolution of tools like ChatGPT means that it’s only a matter of time before low cost medical care will be accessible to millions around the world where traditional medical care is out of reach.

4 day work weeks ahead?

As much as we all love working 5 days a week, Nobel prize winning economist Chris Pissarides seems to think that the productivity improvements from AI could lead to the adoption of 4 day work weeks in the near future.

Pissarides, a professor at the London School of Economics who specializes in the impact of automation on work, says that thanks to tools like ChatGPT, that “we could move to a four-day week easily,” and that “AI could take away a lot of boring things that we do at work, leaving only the interesting stuff to human beings,”

And while he paints a rosy picture, early examples of how the adoption of AI have worked out are significantly more grim.

Take tech review website CNET, for example, which laid off 50% of its editorial staff after realizing that they could use ChatGPT to maintain the same amount of output while employing significantly less people, which we believe will be a more realistic outcome of how AI adoption will work out.

By using AI to increase the productivity of individual employees, companies will likely cut back on the number of workers in order to lower overhead costs, boosting company profits as a result.

This is going to be a serious problem for the people that choose to ignore AI, but for those that take the time to learn how to use AI to their advantage, right now is a massive opportunity to advance in your career or build a new business faster than ever.
