Sam Altman’s World Tour

In an effort to help control the narrative around AI, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has embarked on a world tour in the hopes of enlightening "AI doomers" by shedding light on the incredible potential of the new technology.

And while Altman states that his mission in meeting with leaders around the world is to challenge the notion that AI will inevitably lead to our demise…

Have no doubts that his world tour is certainly motivated by his concern that regulations on AI could impact OpenAI’s lead in the industry.

So what kind of things is Altman saying to world leaders in order to calm their concerns about AI?

Well in a recent meeting with the Prime Minister of the U.K., Altman stated that "the risk that AI poses is a legitimate one, but there's a reasonable chance we solve it."

And yes, you read that right. 

According to Altman, there’s a reasonable chance that AI doesn’t go full terminator and kill us all, which is always good to know.

So given the significant danger that AI poses to the world, how does Altman propose that we mitigate the risk?

By building the technology first, and hoping we figure out how to solve problems as they arise.

"We’re going to risks that have to be managed, but I don’t see any other way to do it except to go build and deploy the technology and work on the risks.”

That’s definitely one way of looking at it.

Altman himself admits that "there are no guarantees and not every risk is fully understood," acknowledging that we're treading into uncharted territory and that there are bound to be “hurdles” along the way.

And while there is massive potential for AI to revolutionize every industry on the planet, one can only hope that the “hurdles” Altman talks about doesn’t involve the destruction of the human civilization as we know it.

Nvidia’s Meteoric Rise

For anyone that thought Nvidia’s stock couldn’t go higher, thanks to blowout earnings announced earlier this week, the stock soared an additional 27% in a single day.

It’s clear at this point that no company has benefited more in the early stages of the AI revolution than microchip maker Nvidia thanks to their ability to capitalize on the explosive interest in the new technology.

Touting themselves as “the world leader in Artificial Intelligence Computing,” the company’s market cap has soared to nearly $1 trillion dollars based on the massive demand for the company’s AI microchips.

And while the company has already been instrumental in developing powerful AI hardware and software for fields like healthcare and autonomous vehicles, according to CEO Jensen Huang, the demand for AI microchips is just getting started.

"AI is at an inflection point, setting up for broad adoption reaching into every industry,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA.

“From startups to major enterprises, we are seeing accelerated interest in the versatility and capabilities of generative AI,” with demand only projected to increase as AI continues to be adopted by greater swaths of the economy.

Although with Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, and Google all having plans to make their own propriety microchips for AI applications, the role that Nvidia will play over the coming years is far less certain.
