Humane’s AI Pin Is Here
Humane Inc., founded by former Apple design and engineering duo Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, has officially launched its groundbreaking AI Pin.
The AI Pin, designed to magnetically clip onto clothing, comes with a price tag of $699 and a $24/month subscription. The subscription includes unlimited data and phone calls, with partnerships announced with T-Mobile for phone service and collaborations with tech giants Microsoft Corp. and OpenAI for AI technology. Pre-orders for the device start on Nov. 16.
Bethany Bongiorno, CEO of Humane, expressed the company's commitment to making advanced technology accessible, stating: “For the technology you are getting, we set a high bar for ourselves in terms of pricing it at a level we think is approachable and accessible.” She emphasized the ongoing work on improvement and driving down costs over time.
The tech and AI communities have been watching Humane since its founding in 2018. The AI Pin, demonstrated by Chaudhri at a TED Talk in April and showcased at Paris Fashion Week in September, has gone viral countless times.
Positioned as a potential smartphone replacement, the Humane Pin comes with its own phone number and operates independently from a traditional smartphone. The device, devoid of a screen, relies solely on user interaction through voice, touchpad, gesture, or object manipulation. It also features a laser projector that can emit text onto the user's hand.
Imran Chaudhri, with a 20-year tenure at Apple leading the design of the iPhone’s home screen, and Bethany Bongiorno, a former software development leader for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, have assembled a team that includes Patrick Gates, the former senior director of engineering at Apple, as the Chief Technology Officer.
In an official statement, Chaudhri and Bongiorno confirmed that the Pin represents their vision of integrating AI seamlessly into daily life while preserving the essence of humanity.
Having secured $230 million in funding to date, with a significant $100 million Series C round in March, Humane has high-profile backers such as Microsoft and Sam Altman.
