On May 20, 2024, Microsoft unveiled its latest breakthrough in personal computing technology—the Copilot+ PCs—at a special event on its new campus. These devices represent a revolutionary advance in the integration of AI capabilities with personal computing, setting a new standard for performance, intelligence, and user experience in the Windows ecosystem.
The Copilot+ PCs are engineered to be the fastest and most intelligent Windows PCs ever, equipped with cutting-edge silicon that delivers over 40 trillion operations per second. This power enables a suite of advanced AI-driven functionalities that are set to transform user interaction with their devices. Features such as Recall, which helps users instantly retrieve anything they've seen on their PC, and Cocreator, which allows for real-time AI-assisted image creation and editing, demonstrate the PCs' ability to enhance productivity and creativity.
Microsoft has collaborated with leading OEM partners including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung to offer these devices, which will be available from June 18, starting at $999. This collaboration ensures that the Copilot+ PCs are not only powerful but also accessible in terms of cost and variety.
One of the standout features of the Copilot+ PCs is their new system architecture. This architecture seamlessly integrates the CPU, GPU, and a new high-performance Neural Processing Unit (NPU), optimizing the device for running large and small language models. This integration significantly boosts the PCs' efficiency and power, enabling them to outperform competitors like the MacBook Air in terms of both multi-threaded performance and energy efficiency.
The Copilot+ PCs introduce enhanced security features with the Microsoft Pluton Security processor and personalized privacy controls, ensuring that users can operate in a secure and private environment. They also come with pre-installed Windows 11, which has been optimized to support a wider range of native Arm64 applications, providing users with a more robust and seamless computing experience.
