In the latest AI innovation buzz, Chinese app maker Kuaishou has rolled out an AI video generator called Kling, setting the stage for a head-to-head with OpenAI's much-anticipated Sora. Kling, already accessible via a waitlist in China, showcases its ability to craft high-quality 1080p videos that can stretch up to two minutes in length. This tool is particularly adept at handling complex motion dynamics, thanks to its "3D spatio-temporal joint attention mechanism."
While Sora remains under wraps with no public release date—partly due to safety considerations ahead of the U.S. presidential elections—Kling is making waves with its advanced capabilities in generating realistic 3D faces and body movements. The excitement around Kling is further fueled by its association with Kuaishou, a major player in the app world and TikTok's primary competitor within China, boasting nearly 400 million daily users.
One standout feature is KLING's versatility in handling varied scenarios. For example, a user-generated video titled "Train ride with different landscapes seen through the window" showcases the model's proficiency in adapting to changing visuals over a two-minute duration. This contrasts sharply with Sora, which, while consistent, typically produces clips of up to one minute.
The introduction of Kling not only heats up the AI video generation race but also raises questions about the transparency of training data used in developing such technologies, a hot topic that OpenAI has been notably tight-lipped about regarding Sora.
