Meta has officially launched its Llama 3 LLM family, now available on Microsoft Azure, featuring models that range from 8 billion to 70 billion parameters. These models are specially tailored for dialogue applications, offering both pre-trained and fine-tuned versions to cater to diverse AI needs.
The Llama 3 models have shown exceptional performance in various benchmarks, particularly in dialogue-based tasks, matching the efficacy of some of the leading closed-source models in terms of helpfulness and safety. This is supported by human evaluations and highlighted on Microsoft's blog.
For developers and businesses, Meta provides the Llama-3-8B inference APIs and hosted fine-tuning capabilities through Azure AI Studio. This platform is a comprehensive tool for developing generative AI applications, equipped with features like model exploration playgrounds, Prompt Flow for advanced prompt engineering, and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) which integrates seamlessly with data-driven applications.
Pricing for using the Llama-3-8B models is based on a pay-as-you-go system, where costs are incurred depending on the input and output tokens used during model interactions. For those utilizing fine-tuning services, charges apply both per hour of fine-tuning and for the tokens used during inference, along with an hourly hosting fee.
The integration of Llama 3 into Azure AI Studio simplifies the process for developers to access and utilize these advanced AI capabilities, providing a streamlined environment for both development and deployment of AI applications.
This strategic partnership underscores Meta's ongoing investment in massive compute infrastructure to support AI development, with plans to expand their resources significantly by the end of the year.
