Microsoft’s Athena
One of the most critical components powering the AI revolution is the AI-specific microchip, a market that Nvidia has effectively cornered.
Nvidia’s virtual monopoly on AI chips puts every company developing AI at their mercy, providing the company with healthy profit margins that have led to the company’s stock more than doubling in the past 6 months.
But Nvidia’s dominance of AI chips may soon be over thanks to a secret project at Microsoft code-named “Athena” that’s focused on developing a new AI chip for training large language models like ChatGPT.
Microsoft’s move follows in the footsteps of Google and Amazon that have already developed their own AI microchips, and will allow the company to dramatically cut down the costs of running it’s AI applications.
A team of around 300 employees are currently hard at work on the project with plans to roll the chip out by the end next year.
Reddit’s Data Goldmine
One of the key things to understand about AI is that the large language models powering AI technology are only as powerful as the data that you train them on.
This makes the data that companies like Google and Facebook collect incredibly valuable, and the worlds favorite internet forum Reddit is no exception.
Thanks its 57 million daily active users, Reddit is a treasure trove of data that tech giant’s have been accessing for free via the company’s API…
But the CEO of Reddit has had enough.
“Crawling Reddit, generating value and not returning any of that value to our users is something we have a problem with,” said Reddit CEO Steve Huffman. “It’s a good time for us to tighten things up.”
Instead of serving up their data for free, the company plans to charge companies like Google, OpenAI, and Microsoft for access to its API, a move that will generate substantial revenue for the company in advance of its possible IPO.

HealthGPT
One of the coolest AI hobby projects to come out recently is HealthGPT, an AI that syncs up with the health data on your phone, allowing you to have conversations about your digital health history.
While the tech is in the early stages, the current version makes it easy to understand your body's unique needs and health patterns, along with providing you with the ability to get tailored advice on your fitness goals.
And as health monitoring technology on smart watches continues to improve, it’ll definitely be exciting to see how products like this continue to progress and evolve.
