Musk vs Microsoft
Only days after Elon Musk announced plans to begin charging for API access to the Twitter database Microsoft responded by dropping Twitter from it’s advertising platform, news that did not sit well with Musk.
"Microsoft dropping Twitter from its advertising platform is like trying to swat a mosquito with a sledgehammer," Musk responded on Twitter.
As we covered yesterday, large datasets are incredibly valuable for training the large language models powering AI tools like ChatGPT, leading companies like Reddit and Twitter to begin charging companies like OpenAI for access.
Musk is now threatening a lawsuit against Microsoft, claiming that the company illegally used data from Twitter to train their large language models, although proving this may be difficult as OpenAI does not openly disclose the source of its training data.
This is only the latest episode in an ongoing feud between Musk and Microsoft-backed OpenAI, a battle that we can only expect to heat up as Musk continues working on his ChatGPT competitor “TruthGPT.”
Snapchat Launches MyAI
Snapchat has officially launched its MyAI chatbot to its 750 million users around the globe, a move that could make this the most widely used AI product in the world.
Developing in partnership with OpenAI, the launching of MyAI is not without controversy after a number of incidents occurred during the initial launch of the product, including the AI offering advice to a 13 year old about how to set the mood before having sex with her 31 year old partner.
Candles and music… classy
The company claims to have installed considerable safeguards since the initial launch, with Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegal claiming that “99.5 percent of My AI replies conformed to our community guidelines” during testing, yet how the safeguards play out in real life remains to be seen.
Exposing teenagers to social media has been shown to lead to increased feelings of depression, anxiety, poor body image, and loneliness, so it’ll be interesting to witness the impact that AI chatbots have on the health and well-being of younger generations.
NVIDIA’s new text-to-video
NVIDIA has just released a new model based on Stable Diffusion that allows you to create high resolution videos with basic text inputs.
Looks like its only going to be a matter of time before we’re able to create full length animated movies based on simple text prompts, making the future of Hollywood stars and producers darker than ever.
