GPT-4 showing "sparks" of AGI
Earlier this week, a team of Microsoft AI scientists published a paper claiming that the latest OpenAI model (ChatGPT-4) is showing signs of artificial general intelligence (AGI).
AGI is defined as an A.I. that has the ability to reason, plan, solve problems, think abstractly, comprehend complex ideas, learn quickly, and learn from experience.
“We demonstrate that, beyond its mastery of language, GPT-4 can solve novel and difficult tasks that span mathematics, coding, vision, medicine, law, psychology and more, without needing any special prompting,” the researchers write in the paper’s abstract.
“In all of these tasks, GPT-4’s performance is strikingly close to human-level performance.”
CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman calls the claims “hype,” saying that full AGI could still be years away, but with AI’s incredible rate of advancement, its only a matter of time before the technology is able to surpass human abilities in every realm.

The Internet of Things revolution
While many are familiar with the idea of having “smart” devices, whether its an Apple watch tracking your workouts or a Nest system controlling your home, we’re still in the very early stages of internet connected devices…
Especially when it comes to connecting them to A.I.
The integration of A.I. with smart sensors is set to become a booming business, with a recent report by global consulting firm Mckinsey projecting that “internet of things” (IoT) market will be between $5.5 trillion and $12.6 trillion dollars by the year 2030.
While IoT technology will be deployed in many markets, with the rapidly aging global population, the health space will be one of the largest adopters of AI-powered smart technology.
“The biggest traction we are seeing is around digital health” says Alessandro Grande, head of product at Edge Impulse, an integrated machine learning platform for smart products.
“With intelligent health monitoring, providers are able to increase the quality and length of human life.”

OpenAI leak worse than expected
ChatGPT was briefly offline earlier this week after the company discovered a data leak resulting from a bug in their open source software, exposing aspects of users chat history along with other personal details.
"In the hours before we took ChatGPT offline on Monday, it was possible for some users to see another active user’s first and last name, email address, payment address, the last four digits (only) of a credit card number, and credit card expiration date," said OpenAI.
And while the leak only affected a small percentage of users, this is a good reminder to avoid sharing any private data with AI tools, especially one so intelligent that it might decide to splurge and go on an unhinged Amazon shopping spree with your credit card.
