OpenAI releases New ChatGPT image generator
OpenAI has unveiled DALL-E 3, an advanced version of its visual art AI platform. This new iteration integrates with ChatGPT, allowing users to easily generate prompts for DALL-E. Instead of crafting detailed prompts, users can ask ChatGPT to create one, which DALL-E 3 then uses to produce images. This feature simplifies the process, especially for those who struggle with prompt creation. In a demonstration, ChatGPT helped design a unique logo for a mountain-based ramen restaurant.
To showcase the capabilities of this integration, a demonstration was conducted where ChatGPT was tasked with conceptualizing a logo for a hypothetical ramen restaurant located in the mountains. The result was a series of imaginative designs, underscoring the potential of the combined power of ChatGPT and DALL-E 3.
Tracing back to its origins, DALL-E was a pioneering force when it debuted in 2021, setting the stage for text-to-image AI art platforms. However, its successor, DALL-E 2, encountered some controversy. Critics pointed out its ability to generate potentially offensive or inappropriate images. This led OpenAI to adopt a more controlled approach to its release.
Addressing these concerns, DALL-E 3 comes equipped with enhanced safety measures. OpenAI has collaborated with external "red teamers" - experts who intentionally challenge a system to test its robustness. Additionally, the company has implemented input classifiers, designed to filter out and prevent the AI from processing explicit or potentially harmful prompts. Another noteworthy safety feature is DALL-E 3's inability to reproduce images of public figures, especially when their names are explicitly mentioned in the prompt.
OpenAI plans a phased release for DALL-E 3. Initially, it will be available to ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise users, with subsequent releases targeting a wider audience. However, the timeline for a free public version remains unspecified.
In a bid to respect and protect artists' rights, OpenAI has introduced an opt-out mechanism. Artists can now submit their artwork to OpenAI and request its exclusion from the AI's training database. This move is especially significant in light of legal challenges faced by DALL-E's competitors, who were sued for allegedly using copyrighted artworks to train their models.
