Good morning and welcome to the latest edition of neonpulse!
Today, we’re talking about Samsung’s recent ‘Galaxy Unpacked’ event, and the partner that stole the show.
Samsung 'Galaxy AI': A Google-Powered Revolution in Smartphone Technology
The recent 'Galaxy Unpacked' event, hosted by Samsung in San Jose, unveiled a new era in smartphone technology with the launch of the Galaxy S24 series. While Samsung was the star of the show, the event highlighted a significant collaboration with Google, marking a pivotal shift in the realm of AI-powered smartphones.
The introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra was not just about new hardware; it was a showcase of advanced AI capabilities, aptly named 'Galaxy AI'. However, it was Google's AI features that stole the spotlight, underscoring the tech giant's influence in this new venture. The resemblance of the Samsung Galaxy AI logo to Google Bard's logo was a subtle hint at this deep integration, which became evident with the announcement of Google's AI-enabled features in the new smartphones.
The collaboration brought forth groundbreaking features like 'Circle to Search', allowing users to draw a circle around any object in an image or video to receive AI-powered information from Google. This feature, along with Live Translate for real-time voice/text translation, exemplifies the seamless integration of Google's AI into the Samsung ecosystem.
The most notable announcement was the integration of Google Gemini, Google's advanced multimodal AI model, into the Galaxy S24 series. The phones will feature Gemini Nano for on-device tasks and Gemini Pro for a broader range of applications, including Samsung's Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard apps. This integration signifies a major leap in mobile AI capabilities, leveraging Google Cloud's infrastructure.
Samsung's AI journey isn't limited to Google. The company's partnership with Microsoft, announced at CES 2024, will bring Copilot features to Galaxy phones. Additionally, Samsung's initiative to use the smartphone camera as a PC webcam showcases its commitment to versatile and innovative technology solutions.
Samsung's announcement of seven years of security updates and OS upgrades for its phones, starting with the S24 series, aligns with Google's strategy for its Pixel phones. This move not only enhances the longevity of Samsung's devices but also intensifies the competition in the Android market.
Google's decision to provide Gemini exclusively to Samsung (aside from Pixel) indicates a strategic move to tap into the vast Android market. Despite losing slight market dominance to Apple, Samsung's collaboration with Google could be a game-changer, leveraging Google's AI prowess to regain its position in the smartphone market.
