Google’s AI Detector
Google is developing systems to identify AI-generated media and combat political misinformation. The company plans to implement these systems across its products and potentially make them available to the wider industry. The move is in response to concerns about the use of deepfakes and AI-generated text for spreading misinformation.
Google's Vice President for Trust and Safety, Laurie Richardson, mentioned that their initiatives include watermarking technologies, transparency requirements, and machine-learning classifiers to detect synthetic media created by other companies' tools. The company aims to provide users with more transparency and help them understand the origin of the content they encounter.
They are exploring technical solutions, such as a machine learning algorithm that detects synthetic audio with high accuracy. However, detecting synthetic media and deepfakes is becoming increasingly challenging due to advancements in AI art programs and photo editing features.
Google's interventions in tackling AI-related misinformation are still evolving, and the specific approach, whether through a database or hashing, is yet to be determined.
Robots say they won't steal jobs or rebel against us
Robots showcased at an AI forum in Geneva expressed their belief that they would increase in number and contribute to solving global problems without stealing human jobs or rebelling against humans. However, during the world's first human-robot press conference, the robots had mixed responses regarding the need for stricter regulation.
The event aimed to demonstrate how AI and robots can help address significant challenges like disease and hunger. The robots emphasized their role in assisting and supporting humans rather than replacing them. While some robots, like the medical robot Grace and the expressive robot Ameca, highlighted their positive impact, others, such as the robot artist Ai-Da and the rock star robot Desdemona, voiced opinions on regulation and limitations. Overall, the robots displayed sophistication in their responses, surprising even their creators. The event stimulated discussions on new AI rules and regulations.
