Good morning and welcome to the latest issue of neonpulse!
Here are the AI headlines making waves:
🌊 Robots in the workforce
🌊 Super-intelligence on the horizon
Let’s get into it!
Robots In The Workforce
With the humanoid robotics market expected to reach $ 17.3 billion by 2027, it comes as no surprise that a number of companies (including Tesla and Boston Dynamics) are pushing hard to develop commercialized versions of the technology.
Yet robotics start-up 1X, which is backed by OpenAI, has officially overtaken Elon Musk in deploying the first AI robot in the workforce.
1X’s EVE robot’s have been gainfully employed as security guards in a number of facilities, helping to deter any potential trespassers with their terminator vibes.
The bots are not completely unsupervised, however, as human security guards keep an eye on the units and maintain the ability to take control over the robots using a virtual reality system.
Bernt Bornich, founder of 1X
And while this is a very basic application of the technology, 1X founder Bernt Bornich anticipates using the robots for a wide range of applications, form caring for the elderly, to construction, to industrial work.
‘I think we will have a completely different society, where we don’t think about labor scarcity,” said Bornich.
And as to how long he expects this robot revolution to take place?
“We could get there in five years if we don’t hit any roadblocks. It’s going to be an exciting future.”

Responsible AI
After speaking in front of U.S. lawmakers last week, OpenAI’s Sam Altman has released a thought piece on how he believes we will need to regulate AI in anticipation of the technology achieving “super-intelligence.”
In the next ten years, AI systems could surpass human expertise in various fields and even rival the productivity of today's largest corporations, making it critical to be proactive in our approach to regulating this type of technology.
According to Altman, there are three key ideas that are crucial for navigating the development of super-intelligence effectively.
We need coordination among leading development efforts to ensure safety and smooth integration with society. This could involve governments setting up a project or collectively agreeing to limit the rate of AI capability growth. Individual companies should also be held to high standards of responsible behavior.
We will need an international authority, similar to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), to regulate super-intelligence efforts. This authority would inspect systems, enforce safety standards, restrict deployment and security levels, and ensure compliance. Companies could voluntarily start implementing elements of this framework, and individual countries could adopt it gradually. This agency should primarily focus on reducing existential risks rather than determining what AI systems should be allowed to say.
We need to develop the technical capability to make super-intelligence safe. This is an ongoing research question that requires considerable effort. While companies and open-source projects developing models below a significant capability threshold should be allowed to operate without extensive regulation, the most powerful systems should be subject to strong public oversight. Decisions regarding their governance and deployment should involve democratic input from people worldwide.
Despite the risks and challenges, Altman believes that it’s essential to create super-intelligent AI given that he believes that the technology has the potential to create a better world by improving education, allowing us to pursue creative work, and aiding us in solving the worlds biggest problems.
And according to Altman, despite concerns of hundreds of millions losing their jobs to AI, the economic growth and quality of life improvements will be “astonishing,” although we’ll have to wait and see exactly how this plays out.
