Let’s get into it!

Calls for AI regulation

Elon Musk, along with over 1,100 other tech leaders, has signed an open letter calling for a six-month moratorium on the development of AI systems “more powerful than GPT-4.”

The letter argues that the technology is becoming too advanced and could become dangerous if not properly regulated, proposing that governments utilize the six-month window to “dramatically accelerate development of robust A.I. governance systems,” and that more powerful systems should only be developed once we are confident that “their effects will be positive and their risks will be manageable.”

Other notable signatories include including Steve Wozniak (co-founder of Apple), Emad Mostaque (founder of Stability AI), Evan Sharp (co-founder of Pinterest), and deep learning pioneer and Turing Award-winning computer scientist Yoshua Bengio.

OpenAI has not publicly responded to the letter.

A judge in India made history by using ChatGPT to help determine whether a murder suspect should be granted bail, taking us one step closer to the day when robots decide the fate of all mankind.

The judge asked ChatGPT-4 “What is the jurisprudence on bail when the assailant assaulted with cruelty?”

To which the chatbot responded: “If the assailants have been charged with a violent crime that involves cruelty, they may be considered a danger to the community and a flight risk,” leading the judge to deny the request for bail.

Look’s like I’m not the only one using ChatGPT to get out of work early…

Cybersecurity AI

Microsoft has released an AI-powered tool called Security Copilot that will enable security analysts to “respond to threats quickly, process signals at machine speed, and assess risk exposure in minutes.”

Highlights of Security Copilot:

  • Analyzes security data from over 100 million devices to detect security threats

  • Provides real-time insights and recommendations, enabling a quick and efficient response to threats

  • Uses machine learning algorithms to improve its threat detection capabilities
