The end of privacy
A little known company named Clearview AI has made a nice business out of scraping your photos off Facebook.
Clearview uses the photos to train an AI facial recognition tool, which it then sells to various police departments for a cool $25k a year each.
To date the company has scraped over 30 billion photos from Facebook, a statistic that Facebook itself is not happy about.
"Clearview AI's actions invade people's privacy," stated a Meta spokesperson, "which is why we banned their founder from our services.”
But the problems with this service extend far beyond invading your privacy, as the system has had issues with falsely identifying suspects, causing a number of innocent people to end up in jail.
"Clearview is a total affront to peoples' rights, and police should not be able to use this tool," said Caitlin George, director of digital rights advocacy group Fight for the Future.
And while I agree, given the police departments and US military’s love for the new tool, I wouldn’t count on this technology going away any time soon.
Edge Unleashes AI Art
Microsoft has introduced a new AI-based image creator inside it’s Edge browser, making it easier than ever to create your own AI artwork and images.
Powered by OpenAI's DALL-E image generation technology, this new tool allows you to generate AI images simply by typing descriptions into the browser, providing a seamless content creation experience.
The image creator will be integrated into Edge's sidebar, enabling you to easily add AI generated images to your documents, presentations, or other projects.
