Good morning and welcome to the latest edition of neonpulse!
Today, X has announced details about how it will collect data to train AI models… Let’s dive in!
X Promises User Safety From AI
In a recent update to its privacy policy, X, formerly Twitter and owned by Elon Musk, has made some noteworthy changes that affect its users. The updated policy, reported by Bloomberg, reveals that X will now collect biometric data, job histories, and education backgrounds of its users.
One significant addition to X's privacy policy is its intent to use the collected data and publicly available information to train its machine learning and AI models.
This change was discovered by tech enthusiast Alex Ivanovs of Stackdiary, known for uncovering updates in tech companies' terms of service. Ivanovs' post on this matter is currently making waves on the Y Combinator's discussion forum, Hacker News.
Connecting the dots, it's important to note that Elon Musk has expressed ambitions in the AI market through another company called xAI. Ivanovs speculates that X could serve as a data source for xAI.
In the past, Musk has stated that xAI would use "public tweets" for its AI models. He's even accused other tech giants of using Twitter data for their AI models and filed lawsuits over alleged misuse of Twitter data. So, the idea of using X's data for AI training aligns with his previous statements.
Adding more weight to this theory is the information on xAI's homepage, which mentions its collaboration with X, Tesla, and other companies to advance its mission. This suggests a close relationship between X and xAI in leveraging data for AI development.
Elon Musk has essentially confirmed the privacy policy change, stating that X plans to use "just public data, no DMs or anything private." This reassures users that their private conversations won't be part of the data used for AI training.

Notably, X has changed its approach to press requests. Previously, it responded with a poop emoji after Musk's takeover of the social network. Now, users receive an auto-responder stating, "We'll get back to you soon." This shows a change in X's approach to media inquiries.
