Zuck’s White House Rejection

Earlier this week President Biden met with the CEO’s of leading AI companies to discuss the future of artificial intelligence, a smart move given how quickly the technology is advancing.

And while many of the people that you would expect to be in attendance were present, including the CEO’s of Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI, one major tech CEO was conspicuously absent: Mark Zuckerberg.

In regards to why Zuckerberg (among others) were not invited to attend, a spokesperson responded that they only invited firms ‘currently leading in the space,’ a strange comment given that Zuckerberg runs one of the largest tech companies in the world and has been actively integrating AI into every one of its products.

But this isn’t the first time that the White House has been “selective” about its invitation lists.

Back in 2021, President Biden hosted an EV summit at the White House but somehow managed to leave Elon Musk off the guest list, an interesting move considering that Elon single-handedly jump started the EV revolution in America.

Many have speculated that Elon was not invited due to his dislike of unionized labor, a position that is in direct conflict with Biden’s tight relationships with labor unions in the US, although that hardly seems like a good enough reason to leave major players out of the discussion.

So what can we take away from Zuckerberg being snuffed from this AI get together?

That political games have taken precedence over ensuring the best outcome for the United States, an unfortunate (but predictable) outcome when dealing with career politicians.

Looks like it’s time for Zuckerberg to step his lobbying game up!

Apple CEO on AI

In sharp contrast to every other tech CEO this earnings season, Apple CEO Tim Cook did not go into any detail about how the company is integrating AI into it’s products…

But that doesn’t mean Apple isn’t working on it.

Although Cook declined to comment on specific AI projects, he did provide insight as to how the company is thinking about AI.

“I do think it’s very important to be deliberate and thoughtful in how you approach these things, but the potential is certainly very interesting,” Cook said.

“We’ve obviously made enormous progress integrating AI and machine learning throughout our ecosystem and we weaved it into products and features for many years,” highlighting AI features like fall detection and crash detection that are current found on Apple devices.

“We view AI as huge and we’ll continue weaving it in our products on a very thoughtful basis,” leading many to wonder why the company has not yet infused Siri with generative AI capabilities…

Although we have to expect that the company will release a “thoughtfully designed” AI-powered Siri at some point later this year.
